leftistlegume Walking the Path to Virtual Salvation drives home the anxiety and anticipation that Jeremy must be feeling in that moment

Beach Party Meltdown felt like a slow descent into madness, but it was one that I didn't want to leave. Rage Quitting Utopia made for a fitting finale. It is fast and frenetic while also managing to be introspective. Where did all this rage come from?

Overall, this album will leave you agitated and wanting to bang your head against the wall (in a good way) Favorite track: Uncanny Lobby.

About This Album:
This ep. began as part of the ill-fated Halloween ARG that was being planned by sheep in 2019. The idea was for participants to create in pairs to make content that connected music to other forms of creativity.

This ep. forms half of Leftist Legume and my contribution to that project. They wrote an extended piece of vaporfiction which I translated into music as they drafted. This story was published as Virtual Beach Resort and is available to be read online at:

It’s fitting now that this EP is coming out in time for Halloween 2021 - like Jeremy, many of us have been trapped within our Virtual Utopias for much of the last two years and we’re only beginning to conceptualize the long term consequences of this. We emerge into a world swarming with horrors we could not previously have imagined.

**************************

The tracks featured here follow the narrative arc of Virtual Beach Resort:

Tracks 1-2: introduces us to our anti-hero, Jeremy, as he languishes hopelessly in prison.

Track 3: transports us from this bleak reality into virtual salvation care of Utopian Virtual Architectural Solutions LLC.

Tracks 4-5: depicts Jeremy’s attempts to orient himself and find pleasure in the promise of his own personal utopia.

Tracks 6-7: draw us into Jeremy’s frustration at the dawning realisation that, even in a virtual utopia, he cannot escape his trauma.

Tracks 8: portrays the devastating consequences of Jeremy’s inability to find peace in the utopia turned hellscape by his mind’s own self-destructive impulses.

An excerpt from the story:

The elevator is playing pleasant, drawn out jazz. To the left and right of the entrance of the elevator, the interior is a mirror, resulting in an eternal repetition and shrinking of the image of the self. The back of the elevator is adorned with a bulletin board that contains ads for such services as room service, the hotel bar, massages, swimming with the dolphins, hang gliding, etc. etc. etc. The advertisements are made of paper and supported with thumb tacks.

“Which of these do you think I should do?” Jeremy asks. “I’ve never been on a vacation like this before.”

“That’s entirely up to you,” the concierge responds. “All of these activities and more are available to you, free of charge. There is a booklet in your room with additional activities, as well as information on how to book an activity.”

“I’m so excited to relax. I can’t wait. Do I have to sleep in the Virtual Beach Resort? I feel like I’d get more relaxing done if I didn’t have to sleep.”

The concierge continues to smile. “You are free to sleep or not sleep as you wish, but be warned that you might dream during the day if you make no time for it at night.”

“This place is like a dream come true,” Jeremy responds.

The elevator dings. Floor thirteen, at last.
